Choreographic composer/cellist
Conducting-via-earphones technique
BIO
Choreographic composer/cellist & interdisciplinary musician, born in Israel 1970. Started composing music at the age of 7, graduated from the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag, Holland. Founder of the Reflex Ensemble, a unique collective of classical musicians, jazz musicians and actors, as well as lighting, sound, photography and video artists, from Israel Europe and the US.
In her compositions, Rosenbaum employs pre-recorded soundtracks, live electronics, contemporary notation, and her signature conducting-via-earphones technique. While structured and choreographed, the music allows for a degree of freedom that both provides room for personal expression and demands a higher sense of aesthetical responsibility from each performer.
Among her teachers listed Lev Kogan, Arie Shapira Leon Shidlovski, Amnon Walman and from the Royal Conservatory, The Hague, studyig composition & electronic music with Giljius Van Bergeijk, Diderik Wagenaar, Roderik de Man, Clarence Barlow and Louis Andrissen.
In 2009 her composition Inbetween was published and described as new notational concept in the book Notation21 by Ms. Theresa Sauer www.notations21.net, her work was presented in an ongoing exhibition and concerts in the US and Europe. Her work is often described both by listeners and performers as passionate inventive, on the edge, would make you feel/think/experience & not forget.
Rosenbaum insisted not to be categorized as a composer, she believes music must find a new form of expression and develop a new art expression. Using her Reflex Invisible Score method she is creating interdisciplinary music, a form of music expression incorporating sound movement and visual elements.
In the past 5 years she has been improvising with her cello together with Ink Boat and San Francisco based theater and movement company, as well as performing with jazz musicians all over the world: Maya Dunietz, Noa Frenkel, Fabienne von Ike & Danny Felsteiner, Ram Gabai, Shahzad Ismaily, Cassie Terman, Shinichi Moma Koga, Aaron Dugan Cristin Wildbolz, and many others.
.THE INVISIBLE SCORE
Is a new notational method she has been developing in the past 10 years. It allows the integration of sound, visual and movement even light events which forms an interdisciplinary new artistic expression. By using earphone triggers and a notation allowing freedom to exist in a very streaked structural environment the overall composition becomes uniformed.
The performers form personal self inspired reactions/conversations but at the same time are interrupted by earphone triggers that force them into an invisible structure. The events triggered by the earphones are fully notated which allows me to manipulate in advance some of the composition but also to effect the improvised outcome.
This ongoing project has been successfully performed and practiced by the Reflex Ensemble members as well as many performers and students around the world. In the past two years she has been developing a body of works which allow flexibility regarding choices of orchestration and or with combining visual and movement artists as well as the extensive use of interactive technology.
Soon: an invisible score website, enabling people from all over the world to create another version of the invisible score tango project and work together to record and video more performances using the Internet.
