.M4 Notations LAB:

M4 Notations LAB is an art project about ‘Notations’, that will take place this September in the M4gastatelier in Amsterdam. In the course of three evenings a varied group of artists, musicians, architects, filmmakers and dancers are to participate in concerts, performances, presentations and workshops around the theme ‘Notations’.

.M4 Notations LAB:

Following John Cage’s book Notations from 1968, the American Theresa Sauer published in 2009 Notations 21, a selection of musical notation methods from over a hundred composers and artists. In response to her publication, Julie Dassaud, the artist and curator of the artists’ initiative Kulter in Amsterdam, set up the festival and platform Notations.nl for avant-garde music and visual arts. Up to now Notations.nl has organised appearances, lectures and performances in cooperation with: Huize Frankendael, STEIM, Orgelpark, Skybox, KABK Den Haag, the American Bookcentre, the Conservatorium Amsterdam and the M4gastatelier.

The project will carry on till 2012, the “John Cage Year”.

.M4gastatelier

. M4gastatelier is the artist-in-residence of the works and commune ‘Tetterode’ in Amsterdam-West. Since 2005 artists from home and abroad have been offered the opportunity to work and reside in this studio for three-monthly terms. Their sojourns are alternated with workshops, exhibitions and dinner parties.
